Are you ready for the flood of “new year, new me” posts? What about the witty “new year, same me” take on this popular proclamation? Listen, I’m not a lover of cliches, but I am here for anyone taking this time to reflect on the last year and make plans for the upcoming year. I’m also here to be real with you: yes, we all set goals and expectations for ourselves but life ultimately happens how it is meant to happen and that is okay. I mean, we have no other choice but to accept it, right? Right.
I love achieving a goal as much as the next overachieving girlie, but this post is all about being realistic. When you’re realistic about goal achievement, you learn to show yourself grace in the event that a certain goal isn’t met at all or at the deadline you set for it. However, let me be clear: I’m only advocating for a realistic mindset when it comes to achieving my goals, not setting them. I believe in my potential, with God, to achieve the highest of goals. Ultimately, I need those goals to align with His plan for my life. If God says it’ll happen, it absolutely will.
Think about that the next time you feel like you failed at something; what if that something just wasn’t meant for you? Do we really want to step into something that isn’t for us? If this happens, just show yourself grace and remind yourself that as long as you are doing what you’re called to do, whatever that is for you will happen. And, be ready for the responsibility of whatever you’re working towards.
Although I haven’t started thinking through my goals for 2024 yet, I’m getting ready to do so and that requires me to be in the right mindset. I plan on having my goals set by mid-December so that I have time to review and refine before the new year.
Are you setting goals for 2024? How do you usually plan them out?
